Hi friends and family,

Here’s an update on the almost finished Fretless Precision Bass Build. I am waiting on a Hipshot Detuner to complete it. I prefer my four-string basses with a detuner for getting low D or C’s on the E string.  Apparently Hipshot is backordered on Gold parts . . . I ordered it exactly two months ago.

Even so, the bass plays really well. This is a 3 1/2 lb. Paulownia body from Guitar Fetish. The neck is a Warmoth Maple with Lined-Fretless Pau Ferro Fingerboard that I stripped, sanded and refinished. The Babicz Bridge is the most solid bridge I ever used and very light. There are two Double String Retainers on the Headstock to keep the strings from slipping out of  the very low nut.

The electronics . . . Well . . . I put a stacked Volume and Passive Tone Control in with a switch to change tonal capabilities between .50 and 1.00 microfarad Capacitors. Then . . . There’s a Stellartone Tonestyler Tone Control with six different tonal sounds . . . OMG! If you can’t get this bass to cut through any mix you’re doing something seriously wrong!!!

I hope you enjoy this build process almost as much as i do . . .

Love to all,

David T

Missing the Detuner
Almost done . . . I’m still waiting on the Hipshot Detuner that has bneen on backorder for months. The detuner enables the E-string to be detuned to a D or C which is very cool to do on a 4-string bass. The Pickguard is ‘White Pearl’ from Warmoth. The Knobs are Gold with ‘White Pearl’ top inserts.
Ain’t she pretty!!! Guitar Fetish Body. Warmoth Neck. Nordstrom Pickups. Babicz Bridge. Stellartone Tonestyler Tone Control and a switch for changing the Capacitor from the typical .50 to 1.00 microfarads. That all makes this a TONE MONSTER!!!
4-String P-Bass Electronics (the black tape is holding the long wire from the Tonestyler so it doesn’t get messy) You can see the two different Capacitors that give the bass subtly different tones as well as the Tonestyler.
There’s those Capacitors! a .50 and a 1.00 microFarad
P-Bass Headstock. I have two sets of String Guides on the head because the Nut is so low, it can’t hold the strings in the slots. That is a good thing, I think. All that Gold looks cool, too!
P-Bass Babicz Bridge. Very solid and super adjustable bridge. It makes the strings a solid part of the bass build.
